Making wishes on a starry night....
The last thing I want to remember about Kauai is the clear, night sky on the westside. It was the eve before returning to Italy, and thanks to some friends of my brother, being invited to join in on their barbecue for the evening made a perfect end to a short stay in the islands. That easy-going style of entertaining will be one of the pastimes I miss most.
Being back here gives me time to reflect. To think about how things, places, and people change. How you can think you know everything today and find out that it's different tomorrow. How you can be in a place one evening and thousands of miles away in the morning. And how you can try so hard to be a good person, a good friend, a good parent, but continue to fuck up. This is the challenge of living. You are aware of all that you've done, both good and bad, but all you can do is to keep going on and do the best that you can because the past can't ever be changed.
Life can be so sweet one moment and cruel the next. My sympathy goes out to J.J., and I wish for him all the strength to go on in his time of recovery. My happiness to G., who deserves all the good things coming to her. Get well wishes and hope for L. and her husband and 3 little ones, a silent prayer for you all. And most of all, my concern and caring to C. Keep your eyes to the future...love, mom.
