Happ-ay 4th of July

I don't get a lot of visits from family back in Hawaii so this 4th of July weekend was an extra special one. Cousins from Maui made the 6 hour drive...from Rome...to the chestnut forest. No need for anymore words (my brains are still reeling from the rapid-fire exchanges in pidgin english). Happy 4th!

About the bottom right photo...the temps went up to the mid-80's but that didn't deter mosquito warriors in the afternoon. Italian skeeters are nasty, hence my stash of weapons of mass destruction.

And I doubled the garlic that's called for.
Hi Rowena, How wonderful for you that your cousins came all that way from Rome, well done to them :-)
You provided a wonderful feast ..!
Cool to have family over for a barbecue! Glad the weather was cooperative, everything looks so good!
Take care.
Kat
nifee deebiru - guess i'll try it...
Anne - now it will be our turn to visit them before they head back home. It's been awhile since we've been to the eternal city!
Kat - I'll be looking forward to Hawaii updates from you soon!
Nate - prego...I liked how simple the marinade is to make, and you cannot go wrong when there's hoisin sauce and chinese 5-spice in there.
Happy belated 4th to you!
Happy 4th! Looks like you had a fabulous time with family. I'd love to be invited to one of your barbecues. Everything looks so yummy.
That looks like a good feast was enjoyed by you all Rowena. If you do head down to Roma, do think about making a detour to Lago di Bolsena if you have time:)
Carla - and you would be most welcome. I am stuck on that idea of your mango salsa and will wait until some better ones show up at the market. Perhaps for the bbq this weekend? ^-^
LindyLou - I will certainly try, and at the moment am looking for dog-friendly places near Lago di Bracciano. We won't consider heading there now though...perhaps in late September/October when things cool down a bit.
So special your family could join you! This looks so delicious (as always!)
Jude - and it was so spur-of-the-moment too. Now it'll be our turn to head over to Rome while they're here.
Hi Rowena,
What excellent grinds for a 4th of July!!
I think that is so cool that your cousins went the extra extra effort to come see you guys.
I feel your happiness :)
Happy belated fourth of July Rowena! I was at a birthday bash/grigliata on Lake Maggiore, so I didn't feel too homesick. The only thing I missed were fireworks!
Barbara - I salute them for driving all the way here and back without a navigation system. That's quite a haul all the way from Rome, but you know how the saying goes....all roads lead to Rome! Haha!
Chiara - if my cousins weren't here I would've invited a few expats. There's a gal and her hubby in Bergamo and another here in Lecco plus YOU so I know we would've all had a blast. Gosh I didn't even put hotdogs on the fire. Happy belated to you too!
Very belated "Happy 4th" to you. My computerr has been on the blink - big time! (So it was YOU who had those weapons of mass destruction!)
Casalba - what a headache! I can only imagine the complete angst. When I'm unable to access recipes online it drives me up the wall. As a business person, you not having internet is a terrible inconvenience!
