Doggies in Maxi Zoo, Leroy Merlin and up on a roof

Okay, I don't think it's uncommon for pets to be able to enter a pet store anywhere, but what about a big home improvement store the likes of Home Depot? We don't have that of course, but rather instead the french-owned company Leroy Merlin for which our home projects would not be possible without them. It took me by surprise the first time I saw owners taking their pooches in there, because I have never seen a 'dogs welcome' sign hanging out front.
Well, what does it matter when it's owned by the french? We love the french. We love their cheese. One day we may even move to France but the nice thing is how dogs aren't required to wear muzzles in LM. We took the Mister out for another shopping experience in a big box, and being that this was his first time at Leroy's, put on the muzzle because he is, and can be, so unpredictable. I suppose it went well enough, considering the new surroundings. He dove right into a bunch of tassels and stayed put while we looked at outdoor shades.

And this thing about dogs on a roof. Neither of mine would even think of pulling a Snoopy and snoozing on top of their doghouse, but using it as a means of trying to catch a lizard? I have never seen the westie try so hard to stretch her body in her zeal to reach that reptile.

Gelato of the Day

Gluten-free, wheat-free and only 214 skinny calories per cone. I am far from having any food allergies or particular dietary needs, but what drew me to these were the Amazon.com-sturdy cardboard box that they came packed in. I'm going to save it to send something to myself later on. The vanilla and chocolate tasted like any other vanilla & chocolate ice cream cone - cheap and tasty stuff. Gluten-free or not, I would have never known the difference.

I love the westie stretching so hard to get that lizard - they are stubborn little dogs but with great personalities ... what a cute photo of the 'tassel dog' -
All the best, Katie from

Rowena, every time I see photos of your babies, my heart melts. How great to see Maddie without a muzzle! Poor dear, I'm happy the French value puppy dogs so much! And gluten-free or not, that gelato looks fantastic! I feel guilty in admitting I've had two gelatos already since I've been here. Grief. I'm going to have to weigh myself tomorrow, without a doubt! :)
Mads so gung-ho for that lizard! I'm glad Mr B was well behaved (well with the muzzle on he had to be) That gelato looked yum-o!
Maddie is just so adorable and Mr. B under all those tassels ~ !
I love that in Europe, dogs are allowed and welcomed in so many places. Most stores and many restaurants are fine with having them inside. Frankly, I'd rather have a dog by the next table than children! Maybe that's not PC, but that's me. I'm glad the doggies had such a fun time!
Katie - Maddie is Miss Stubborn 24/7. Spits out medicine, snubs me in the face if she doesn't get her way, yanks toys out of the doxie's mouth. What she wants, she gets...or else.
Bella - don't forget that you are burning calories in the heat as your body needs energy to cool you off as well. But those churros....those churros!
Kat - the two of them would have a BLAST with the geckos in Hawaii. Poor geckos wouldn't have a chance.
Midge - let's see if he dives into something else the next time.
Gayle - I've felt the same about kids on more than one occasion, but I don't blame the kids, I blame the parents. Like they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!
This is super, super awesome, I wish I could take both my pets at a cafe more often, but one bullies the other and I'm afraid I would leave embarrassed or get kicked out.. lol
Love your kids!
I'm glad the doggies are getting the full retail experience, we are fans of Leroy Merlin too. A couple of years ago we were in a smart restaurant in rural France and one of the diners actually had his small dog on his knee during the meal.
elle marie - thankfully the westie bullies the doxie only at home. It's like she does this transformation when we go out, where she puts on "the pose" of look at me! look at me!
Nate - they keep me busy all day every day!
Jenny - I've heard of a pizzeria here that actually allows dogs to sit at the table! Not sure if we'll check it out because the last thing I need is the westie expecting to sit at the table from then on.
I can't imagine eating packaged ice cream in the land that produces the best fresh gelato in the world
Debra - I used to feel the same way until I realized that italians, like any other consumer, sometimes need to pick up gelato that is cute and easy-to-serve for their kids (or themselves). Authentic gelato is an indulgence. At times you might just need a sugar fix.
Don't you think the assumption in Italy is that dogs are welcome unless there's a sign specifically saying No? What kind of meanie wouldn't want dogs in the shop, especially Maddy and Mr. B., who looks like he's considering a new career in exotic dancing... both adorable.
Fern - not a chance! We've been given the stink eye, the cold shoulder and given the unwelcome mat when approaching a place to ask if dogs are allowed. I will never forget the Slow Food restaurant where the owner chided us for not telling them about our dogs when we made reservations. It turned out that the reservationist neglected to tell the owner, who in turn gave us grief for the entire evening by taking his time to take our order to taking his time to get the food to our table. An absolute jerk and he never even apologized for being in the wrong about the dogs.
