Sticking around for summer?
Or will you be flying off for a trip? The end of July marked the start of summer vacations for many families, and quieter streets couldn't be better proof of the great italian departure to the seashore. This year we're staying put in the chestnut forest which means the blog does not go on vacation! Plans for hiking, local events, picnics and of course more gelato are in the works. I am particularly interested in exploring Bergamo's alps and the little hamlets that dot the map within the valleys. These places are reported to make excellent alpine cheese....

Flies on a strip by Rubber Slippers In Italy on Flickr. Some may find it aesthetically unappealing but I find it even more repulsive to see them landing on my food.

We are staying home this year, not by choice. Luckily we already live at the sea, so there's that.
Saretta - I grew up right across the ocean, which is why I never opt for seaside holidays. Now if only they offered trips to the moon at a decent rate...
It's raining pups and kittens in these parts, so trips to the beach are unthinkable at the moment.
As for the flies - better on the flypaper than over one's food!
That's definitely a good way to catch flies.
Midge - my sentiments exactly!
TK - I like the "set it and forget it" aspect until it's time for another replacement.
Just came back from a week in Santorini. Wish I could have stayed there longer!
my "vacation" is almost over, it was really wet over here, can't complain though.
Rowena, if you lived anywhere other than the chestnut forest, I'd probably say, "Oh no" regarding your not going on vactation. Fortunately, you live in this magical place and I for one can't wait to see future posts of your hikes, new gelato discoveries and my furry friends Maddie and Mr. B!
Chiara - job hunting in Greece??? I thought you were working down at the lake!
Kat - with all that you've been able to eat, see and do I have to agree.
Bella - the funny part is that city people escape the city to come up here for the holidays, and one of my *ideas* is to rent this place out for the summer. It's got everything that a summer apartment needs PLUS the added benefits of a fruit and vegetable garden. What more can I say?
We'll be coming to Lazio very soon and I might get some flypapers when I arrive. Here I have one of those battery operated tennis bats that shocks the little blighters when you swot them, gives me hours of entertainment.
The old fashioned fly papers and fly swats still seem to be the best way of keeping those pesky flies at bay!
Jenny - I looked into those fly rackets but knowing how I failed at tennis, doubt that I'd be any better at swatting flies!
LindyLou - the fly strips have worked for us since day one, but when a little fella gets past the screen doors, a dish towel and a good WHAP! does the trick too.
