La Formaggiata (full-on cheese dinner)

la Formaggiata

I know it appears as if all we ever do is cheese, but I swear we make room for those other groups within the food pyramid, accompanied by the requisite glass(es) of wine. These were purchased from the Slow Food event last week - altogether about 3 lbs before nibbing - and we tasted small bites along with white truffle honey, tomato jam, hot pepper jelly or mostarda, a sweet-spicy fruit condiment that my mother-in-law always gifts us with for xmas holidays.

Speaking of holidays (3 more months til Christmas!), here we are just getting into the crisp, cool feel of fall season but soon it'll be summer all over again. This gal is heading back home!

Jess - in my next life I'd like to be a cheesemaker and come up with the coolest names for my curds!

Candylei - Ikea! I was actually looking for fabric to make seatcovers for the car but unfortunately, if I want hawaiian floral I have to get it back home.

Kat - heehee...I've got an idea to visit as many hole-in-the-wall places as possible, stomach willing!

Wait, did you just say mostarda - as in Mostarda di Cremona? Dear gods, that stuff tastes gorgeous with some Stilton and some plain crackers. (Though the Stinking Bishop also goes well with it. :D)

Midge - the one and only! Would you believe that sometimes I want to tell my m-i-l not to give us anymore??? She likes to get huge bottles and between the 2 of us, it lasts us for the whole year.

Chiara - bollito misto with mostarda!

No, bring on as much cheese as you can - I was getting worried that all you did was ice-cream! (And, looks like 4 out of 7 of your choices were British cheeses. How I miss a good Double Gloucester, Red Leicester and don't even start me on Stilton!) Good job we've got some good cheeses around here too - they are going down nicely with our last crop of fresh figs.

Rowena, that shot of the wine being poured is just fantastic! I can't believe the wonderful variety of cheeses on that plate! Yum! Someday I hope to be able to join you in one of these food adventures of yours!:)

Kathy - there were so much "art" over there that I wish we could've brought home, but a gal can eat only so much before turning into a cheeseball herself. Wish I had friends nearby that love the stuff as much as I do!

Casalba - that Neal's has a way of making you want to bring home a piece of everything they've got, but knowing that they'll be back puts me at ease. Figs and cheese...what a life!

Bella - I am still miffed at myself for not getting a slice of the aged artisan gouda. All along I thought they were only those little wheels sealed in red wax!
