The coldest winter since 1985

Piccolo paesino

This is the Church.
This is the steeple.
Open the doors
and see all the people.

How quiet and peaceful the village sleeps in our little nook in the mountains. These images were taken yesterday but today it is the complete opposite with blue sky and glaring snow all around. The thermostat registered a modest -5.5°C (22°F) this morning and while it looks like the snowing party is over, Punxsutawney Phil has predicted 6 more weeks of winter. Do groundhog forecasts count in Italy? I hope not, but with the onion outlook for 2012, a serene primavera in mid-March puts Phil in the driver's seat. Link (italian):

Hey Sis, that looks fun and terrible at the same time. We got a dumping too and I didn't dare drive for 3 days. But dang to the metro buses, they still ran so I had to go to work for 2 out of the 3 days. I can't say that the cat liked it. She gave me a look when I threw her in the backyard fluff that could put an onion stink to shame. Ru

You should see it here. You know how big our dogs are, well the snow comes up over their legs - Maddie and Mr B would compeltely disappear.

LindyLou - skies should be clearing up for you in a few days (I think). Stoke that stufa!

foodhoe - the Mads was born to be frolicking in the snow. Can't imagine how she'd suffer if we ever moved back to Hawaii.

Ru - 2 outta 3? Arghghh...well that's only because you guys are so efficient and well-adapted to weather like this. Here everything just shuts down for a few days.

miranda - I would venture to say that the regions of Piemonte and Emilia Romagna would love to send some over. We get blanketed...and they get buried!

casalba - our 2 usually love to get right into the stuff but because of the extreme cold, this year they are less enthusiastic about being outside. I do not blame them at all!

Candylei - shave ice to last the whole year!

And now it's worse! I'd even disappear if I ventured out. No chance of moving the car - luckily I stocked up the fridge /frig and the freezer.

casalba - I just can't believe what I'm seeing on the news. The amount of snow that Marche is getting does not make me jealous one bit. Keep that fire burning!
