Zerrin - if not for my gelato maker (Simac GC5000), I wouldn't feel as confident to make my own gelato. You are so right about the consistency, as it is key to good gelato apart from the flavor itself.

Tales - for starters, the recipe is adapted from The Paley's Place Cookbook so I'd be curious to know what the original is like. The liquor-soaked cherries were great, just not so much in contrast with the yolk flavor.

Laura - it's not that it didn't come out good, just not too my personal tastes. Maybe someone out there would much prefer the flavor of yolks?

Ann - no strawberries? blueberries? blackberries? No orange ice cream bars?!! Ann, they are some of the greatest flavors to be had, aside from italian gelato of course ^-^...omg, cantaloupe flavor!

Gastroanthropologist - so glad you picked up on the doubtful addition of cinnamon! My husband felt the exact same way, especially since I was using dark Vignola cherries which have a very deep, full flavor.
