It's off....to the vet

By my clock he should be back in about 3 hours, and I hope that for what MotH doled out (130 euros), the "operation" will prove to be the right decision to lessen the aggression in our beloved little dachshund. I think he knew something was up this morning when I said 'no treats for you', and when he and the MotH were driving away, I could hear him crying in the back of the car. Maddie wasn't the least bit bothered by his absence and spent the better part of the morning hunting lizards.

Ya, the changes weren't evident in my cat for the first three weeks or so. Then, she mellowed out and started acting like a kitten again, which is fine by me.

Hope the operation goes well!

Kat - da "B" is back but we'll have to wait if the operation made any difference. If it will curb his tendencies to piss on my plants that would be a good start!

Carlae - honestly I thought he'd be acting weird when he got home. So untrue. I noticed though, that his gait is a little different from not having "the weights" anymore.

RONW - you are probably right on that one. If, by chance, he should ever make the cover on those supermarket tabloids, grab a copy and I'll have him personally autograph it for you!

Laura - several characters actually. I just wish I could catch all of his expressions but they come at moments when I'm not able to capture them. Maddie is so much easier with her constant expression of "Huh?" *lol*

Debi - auntie, mama already had to put "da cone" on my neck because I no listen when she says stop fussing with the zipper. She also said to stay outside and try to catch reception for the tv...over here we can hardly get anything worth watching!

You gotta give a new name - he's not Mr. B anymore! LOL

Nate - agggg... That's what I was afraid of. He could just go with a plain "B" or Bentley but there's also his kennel name (the one that the breeders gave him for identity records) - and that one is Ali Baba! (Ali B?)

Oh little Mister. . .i can imagine how kawai'i he must look with his cone - awwww.

Oh my, yes - many many mahalos to your son. . .we appreciate. Wow, he has the makings of a superhero with that eye "mask" on and those guns!

NINE lbs?!? And HOW tall are you, girl??
Rowena said…
Deb - you know how "petite" us island girls are. Put it this way...I always find money on the ground but when it comes to reading signs above my line of vision, may as well not even have them there!

My wife says your son is hot. Win for him, fail for me. I guess I better hit the gym!

Also, glad to hear Mr. B made it back to the house alright. Now we just have to hope it wasn't too late!

By the way, I think I may have fixed the problem you were having viewing my search bar.

Brad - you know, if you both decide to make a family you will have children that take on that caucasian influence like my son has. He was born in another life, pre-Italy, and if you saw he and I together you would not believe that we are related upon first glance. He got his father's fair skin and people don't believe I look "old" enough. I know your wife would understand because of our genetics...we keep our youthful looks much longer. ^-^

Funny you should say that. This is me andmy brother when we were younger. I was 9 in this photo and he was 7. People, including my dad, used to say I must have been switched with another baby in the hospital.

Somewhere I have pics of DaBoyee with DaCone on, giving me DaStinkEye!! Was good fun watching him navigate wit dat ting on.
Ah, I hopw the doggie's all right now. He won't mind after a little while. Your son should definitely talk man-to-man with him one of these days!

Brad - if I didn't know any better I'd say that you are also "mixed" like my son, but it looks to me like you're the most dashing one in that photo. Did you always have such confidence and style? (your brother does look cute in his jacket and tie)

Debi - I thought I saw you post pics once but I am probably mistaking Shu with somedog else. The stink eye, I believe!

WL - MrB is doing well and behaving like his usual self...that is, harrassing the westie until she stops what she's doing in order to chase him!

My grandfather was born in the Philippines, so I'm 1/4 Filipino. I was always a lot darker than my brother growing up, and still am when you look at us together. I tan easier and get a lot darker than him. He usually just turns red or burns. I lost my charm somewhere around puberty, but got it back after a few awkward years. ^_^

Nate - I was thinking that I could go just go local, laid back, take-it-easy BRUDDDAH! Bruddah B, in Italy.
Lori said…
I'm glad to hear Mr. B made it back safely! And I like your comment to Nate...Bruddah B, it has a nice ring to it! :)
Rowena said…
Lori - I've been saying Bruddah B all day and while he doesn't immediately come running (or run at all), he does give me a look in acknowledgement. Maybe I'll have to serenade him with ukulele music first. :-DDDDDD!

omg, brad that is just the cutest picture ever!!

i just love seeing how hapa mixes turn out...even within the same family. but always beautiful/handsome, no matter how you slice it!

Yes, do pass on our thanks to your son for his service. I'm sorry you missed each other this time, but hopefully you'll connect up soon. Yeah, the military will do that to you... we lost hundreds of dollars in missed deposits for trips that were cancelled last-minute when duty called.
BTW, this son of yours could stand in for the next generation Wolverine, don't you think?! : )
Rowena said…
Nate - are you commandeering this thread? :-O Update on the little buggah coming up, and right you are that AF pilots can't possibly be buff.

Manju - teehee...that masked offspring of mine is thinking more along the lines of Christian Bale 'Batman' - I never saw the movie (3rd time's a charm sorta thing).

Mr. B is adorable.

I had to smile when you said Maddie did not miss him while he was gone. Westies are so comical without trying to be if you know what I mean.

Sir Salty wants to see more postings about Miss Maddie. Me too.)
Rowena said…
Candylei - I know exactly what you mean...at our home it is a constant case of the giggles as the two interact throughout the day. One thing I have to admit though, is that while the westie can be testy, the doxie is the complete opposite!

Medieval castles but not a knight in sight

Counting castles...what we need now is a lively jousting event and fair maidens. Valle d'Aosta is the land of castelli (castles), and spotting them is almost like engaging in a game of punch bug. I felt that it wouldn't be right to leave out such historical detail, but the sharp contrasts...you'll see what I mean in the photos. Now I don't know if it's due to Walt setting the standard on what a castle should look like, but through the dozen or so times that I've been here, not once did I make any real effort to appreciate these medieval landmarks that have withstood the test of time - save one. That would be the Castle of Sarre (3rd image), where we had our wedding photos taken. I believe that most castles are open to the public, and further info can be found here at Valle d'Aosta Castles . The Disney ish -looking one is Castle Saint Pierre (at right). It's a small world after all. Parking sign [P] and picnic tables (not shown) in front of Cast

A Campari moment

So...the lawn is done. The shower (and a double-sized one at that) scrubbed down. The floors mopped. The "kids" bathed, dried, and nails clipped. The monstrous old fennel cut down and ready to cart away. The kumquat fertilized, dinner done (oxtail soup), and the terrace swept for the 10th time because the "kids" think it's perfectly okay to leave the chestnut peels after devouring those that fall in the yard. The best part? Having my lardo d'Arnad photo featured in an italian restaurant and hospitality magazine, Italia A Tavola . I'm pretty stoked, and was sent a pdf copy of which I've snipped a part here.

Hi-Yo, Silver, away!

Slowly, but surely, Miss Maddie the alpine westie is gaining back her strength and stamina on these brief walks that we take around the mountainside. The hot summer temps are fading away, maybe too fast for my liking, but in the coolness of digits less than 70°F, the dogs handle it much better outdoors. We came across an old hotel over the weekend, its exterior still in good shape even if the property was no longer in operation. Along the outside wall, iron rings were firmly attached for way back in the days when people traveled by horse. An iron boot remover/puller was firmly embedded right next to the entrance. I've never taken riding lessons, but now I'm thinking, wouldn't it be fun to go on a vacation through the italian countryside only on horseback? I believe there are already these types of eco-tourism here, and I've read about one where you travel by donkey instead. The dogs would probably prefer to walk it themselves, as long as the pace was kept to a t
